This wildlife refuge is made up of 27,000 acres of forest, tidal marshes and ponds that are believed to be haunted by a demon mule. Stories say the beast was known to attack fishermen and loggers long ago, so the locals hunted it and chased it to its death in quicksand. The mule's spirit is said to linger here.
